What a wonderful way to spend a Saturday curled up with such a excellent book!! Thank you, Lauren!! I wasn't even in the mood for romance when I picked up "Alone." I had a lot going on in my life, and I was sad about several things at the time Lauren's second book arrived in the mail. The first chapters showed Alex was a formidable young woman who knew what she wanted in her life - or rather, what she didn't want. But, as I turned the pages, her vulnerabilities slowly began to unfold. Anyone who has suffered heartbreak in life, regardless of the type of heartbreak, can immediately relate to what Alex's character was experiencing. She works her way into your heart, even while you are screaming at her in your mind "what is wrong with you?" Alex is broken in ways that are irreparable. Turin is perfect! Certainly too perfect for her. How can a relationship develop when she is emotionally unstable? How can he love her when she doesn't love herself or want to be loved? How long will Turin last before he stops coming back? How will she ever overcome the pain of her childhood? How will she ever overcome a hole in her heart that can never be filled? You will find yourself turning the pages as fast as you can to find these answers and much more. Throughout the story Lauren brings to life an improbable solution to Alex's aloneness abyss. I forgot everything I was sad about and spent a wonderfully enjoyable day in my lawn chair turning pages, drinking in the story, and letting my emotions flow wherever Lauren wanted to take them. On top of a captivating story, Lauren's writing is interlaced with words of wisdom that we all know but need to hear repeated over and over, because we get so caught up in life that we forget what is really important. I want a mom like Sofia, a brother like Kellan, and a friend like Samantha. I have my Turin, and Lauren's book reminded me why I love him so much. It's not that I forgot, but after almost 30 years together, it is easy to forget how hard it was to find him and how very grateful I am that I did. My story is very similar to Alex's in that I swore off men in my life just at the time the "right" man appeared. I shiver to think what would have happened if he had not persisted as Turin did. There have been times in my life when I felt so very alone although I was surrounded by many loved ones. The despair you feel at such times is incapacitating. Lauren did a very good job of capturing that despair and what it takes to overcome it. Thanks, Lauren, for brightening my day and giving me memories that will make me smile for the next several months (until I read it again). That's something only a great love story can do! Also, the photo Lauren took for the front cover was perfect in so many ways; so creative the way she wove it into the story yet the picture can stand on it's own with the title as it's caption. Please don't stop putting your inspiring stories into print, Lauren!!

I could not put this book down! I got so attached to Alex and Turin, they feel like friends. Lauren takes time to develop each character. I am really wanting her to write Alone 2! This is an easy read that will keep you turning the page to know more.
