The Autobiography of Santa Claus A Revised Edition of the Christmas Classic The Santa Chronicles Jeff Guinn Books
This a wonderful "autobiography" of Santa Claus. I would classify this type of story as Fantasy fiction. So you have to keep that in mind as you read this story and know that anything is possible. The story starts out with Nicholas being born in 280 AD. He has humble beginnings as someone who wants to do good and give gifts to the needy. As time goes along he picks up followers and becomes immortal. The followers he picks up are mostly well know people throughout history. His first "helper" is a slave in whom he buys his freedom. Felix is his name and becomes his main sidekick throughout this journey. Some of his well known followers are none other than Atilla the Hun, Arthur as in King Arthur, Leonardo DaVinci,St. Francis of Assisi,Benjamin Franklin and then later in the 20th century, Teddy Roosevelt and Amelia Earhart. He also has extensive meetings with two literary giants in Washington Irving and Charles Dickens. As you can see this gets just a little cumbersome trying to keep up with all of these figures. Just a little too much for me. Also the name of Saint Nicholas wife is a little perplexing, Layla. I just can't imagine that being the name of Santa Claus's wife! Anyway the author ties all things together that we know about Santa very nicely and explains most questions we ever had about him. It is a very pleasant and quick read. Just keep in mind that it is fantasy and don't be surprised what can take place with a little magic.Tags : Amazon.com: The Autobiography of Santa Claus: A Revised Edition of the Christmas Classic (The Santa Chronicles) (9781585424481): Jeff Guinn: Books,Jeff Guinn,The Autobiography of Santa Claus: A Revised Edition of the Christmas Classic (The Santa Chronicles),TarcherPerigee,158542448X,Fairy Tales, Folk Tales, Legends & Mythology,Santa Claus,Christmas books,FICTION Biographical,FICTION Fairy Tales, Folk Tales, Legends & Mythology,FICTION General,FICTION Historical General,Fiction,Fiction - General,Fiction-Fairy Tales, Folklore & Mythology,GENERAL,General Adult,POPULAR AMERICAN FICTION,Pictorial treatment,Self-help & personal development,United States, mythology; fairy tales; santa; christmas classics; gifts; stocking stuffer; christmas gifts; christmas books; world history; gift ideas for women; stocking stuffers; christian books; christian; stocking stuffers for adults; classics; holiday teacher gift; christmas gifts for her; christmas gift ideas; holiday gift; christmas stories; first christmas gift; christian gifts; gifts for women; nostalgia gift; teacher appreciation gifts; santa claus; christian gift; historical; folklore; fairy tale; folktales; alternate history, santa;gift ideas for women;stocking stuffers;christian books;christian;stocking stuffers for adults;classics;holiday teacher gift;christmas gifts for her;christmas gift ideas;holiday gift;christmas stories;first christmas gift;christian gifts;gifts for women;nostalgia gift;teacher appreciation gifts;christmas classics;gifts;stocking stuffer;christmas gifts;santa claus;christian gift;historical;mythology;folklore;christmas books;fairy tales;fairy tale;folktales;alternate history;world history,FICTION Biographical,FICTION Fairy Tales, Folk Tales, Legends & Mythology,FICTION General,FICTION Historical General,General,Fiction - General,Popular American Fiction,Fiction,Christmas books,Self-help & personal development
The Autobiography of Santa Claus A Revised Edition of the Christmas Classic The Santa Chronicles Jeff Guinn Books Reviews
You know it's fiction, but it is still very enjoyable. Started off a little slow, but I enjoyed it greatly. I like history, and enjoyed the reference to all of the historical characters as well. An enjoyable read, especially during the month of December.
Santa starts out as Saint Nicholas, a boy who loves to give gifts to those in need. He focuses on what the recipient needs. The creation of a myth begins as stories spread with anachronistically internet-like speed among the storytelling populace. Saint Nick finds he has eternal life and travels from country to country, making his own legends and variations. He picks up some strange elf helpers like Attila the Hun and Arthur the King of Camelot which help the reader place his travels in historical time. The story winds down in America where the English misunderstand the Dutch pronounciation of his name and he becomes Santa Claus. "Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa" and "Twas the Night Before Christmas" are brought in. Then Santa goes to live at the North Pole. It is not a deep book, nor does it pursue the pagan roots of many Christmas customs, but for a surface skim of Santa lore, it is enjoyable, making Santa Christian, without too much preaching.
This is a good book for anyone who haant always had the biggest christmas spirit. Its a good read, too.
If you've ever doubted Santa was real then you better read this!
Santa tells you his life story from back before he became a bishop to present. You get to meet all his helpers and they will surprise you on who some are.
Very good bio for the holidays and enjoy.
I had already read “How Mrs. Claus Saved Christmas”, as it was a gift, but when I saw that it was the sequel to this book, I immediately ordered “The Autobiography of Santa Claus”, and it’s every bit as enjoyable as the sequel. I plan to order all of the author’s books. He’s a very entertaining author who makes you want to read the entire book at one sitting! A thoroughly enjoyable book.
I've been searching for years for a Christmas novel that was something other than lost souls moving home (or away from home) to recover from a lost love only to have everything work out by Christmas Eve. This book is absolutely perfect...no sappy romance just Santa's story and the explanations of how his magic has worked for centuries. I own the hardback book "The Christmas Chronicles" but spent the money for the edition because the hardback book is too cumbersome to take with me when I have the few brief moments this time of year to read. I've downloaded book two in this trilogy and while the grandchildren are watching the latest Disney movie tonight I look forward to starting this next book. Hopefully I'll be able to feign enough interest that they won't notice I'm reading instead!
This book is amazing. Written as Santa telling you his story, he takes you through world history Ashe tells you how he came to be. Along the way he collects famous figures from history as Christmas traditions are created. The author doesn’t tell you how much is fact, or fiction, but I do know a handful were correct. Jeff Guinn seamlessly weaves Santa into the creation of all the traditions we’ve grown up with.
I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who loves Christmas traditions, how they came to be, & Christmas stories in general. I see this book being a Christmas read every year.
